General Introduction

  Nanhai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport of PRC (hereinafter called “NRB”), one of the national professional maritime rescue organizations which is subordinate to the Ministry of Transport, i  is established on June 28, 2003. Under the jurisdiction of the Rescue &Salvage Bureau of the Ministry of Transport (hereinafter called “CRS”), the  organization’s main duty is to execute the principles, policies, laws and regulations concerning maritime rescue of the Ministry of Transport; to undertake life rescue for vessels and maritime facilities in the South China Sea, as well as  life saving for domestic and foreign aero crafts and other objects in distress ; to undertake maritime firefighting purposed for life saving; to undertake rescue of vessels, maritime facilities and other properties at sea directly purposed for life saving; to undertake special political and military tasks and disaster relief  instructed by the government; to perform obligations under concerned International Conventions and Bilateral Maritime Agreements.

  NRB’s headquarters is located at No. 42, West Binjiang Road of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It contains Nanhai First Rescue Flying Service of MOT in Zhuhai,Rescue Fleet, Rescue logistics Center in Guangzhou, 7 rescue bases located in the coastal cities such as Shantou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhanjiang in Guangdong, Baihai in Guangxi, Haikou, Sanya in Hainan, and maritime rescue center in Sansha. From the south exit of Taiwan Strait in the north to the Nansha Islands in the south, all the South China Sea is our authority.

  Under the “personnel capable, well-equipped, highly skilled, play a key role at a critical time" requirements from the Ministry of Communications, and the “to give the surviving hope to others and to take the death risk ourselves" spiritual relief , NHB has built underwater, surface and air three-dimensional integrated maritime rescue system. Until the end of 2021, NRB has performed rescue missions 5312 times, Rescue Resources taken 7737 missions, successfully rescued 1304 vessels in distress (including 142 foreign vessels), and has saved 20676 people (including 1880 foreigners) and properties valued RMB 48.6 billion Yuan.
